Note(s)University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: sw01-018. G W Swire referenced each negative in this album with the prefix A written in white ink. This negative is referenced A16. The album itself has also been archived at some stage with the reference P2/II.  In background, on roof: "The Shanghai Dock & Engineering Company Ltd", "S. C. Farnham" and "Boyd & Co Ltd".  The P.S. Hankow (1874-1906) was devastated by a fire on 14 October 1906, when berthed at Canton Steamer Wharf, Hong Kong.  111 people are said to have lost their lives.  She was towed to Shanghai in 1907 and converted to a hulk; then moved to Hanow and used as a transhipment godown.  Transferred to Shasi in 1930 and then to Ichang in 1938. She was destroyed by American bombing in WW2.  (Source: Wikipedia).
