Note(s)University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Bi-s040.  Liu Lianyi (1911-1995) was the third son of Shanghai businessman Liu Hongsheng, and together with two of his brothers studied at Cambridge University in 1930-33. Liu and his family are the subject of Sherman Cochran and Andrew Hsieh, The Lius of Shanghai (Harvard, 2013), were this photograph is also reproduced. The original is held in the Center for Research in Chinese Business History at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
