| Description | This collection of shape files covers all the different spatial dimensions of Shanghai in 2005-2007. The origin of the collection is unclear. It came to Virtual Shanghai through a collaboration with a Chinese colleague in southern China. It is obvious that this collection was produced by a very professional organization.
Because of the uncertain origin of this collection, that may involve issues of copyright, we cannot make this collection public and available for immediate download. This does not prevent any scholar, however, to contact Virtual Shanghai directly through our contact form (Mail: contact@virtualshanghai.net) to request the collection. We shall make it available to any bona fide scholar for research purposes.
Description of the shape files:
- Districts: shapefile of the administrative limits of the 19 districts of Shanghai
- Objects: shapefile of 233,386 objects, namely all institutions (companies, shops, schools, etc.) with their full name, short name, postcode, district, and category.
- Place names: shape file of 12,708 place names that include street names, local places, parks, housing complex (e.g., xxx小区, xxx花园, etc.), building, areas (e.g., 上海良友经济开发区).
- POI: shape file of 5,524 Points Of Interest, including consulates, hotels, entertainment facilities, sport facilities, public parks, malls, temples, highways tolls, libraries, museums, exhibitions halls, religious buildings, hospitals, post offices, technology parks, economic bureaus (e.g., 经济城办事处), industrial areas, buildings).
- Rail: shape file of 536 line segments that altogether represent railway lines.
- Residential: shape file of 252,000 polygons representing the built-up areas. The polygons show the location of each built-up element, without any other data (no name).
- Roads: shape file of 50,545 road segments representing rhe whole raod network in Shanghai, with an ID, name, district, road category.
- Vegetation: shape file of 240 green areas, including parks, university green, etc.
- WaterMain: shape file of 4,467 river segments that altogether represent the major waterway network in the Shanghai Municipality.
- Waterways: shape file of 161 river segments that represent secondary waterways in the main waterway network.
