This dataset on railways include three distinct layers that cover three periods railway lines. It was created in 2012.

RailwayREP: This is the layer for the railway network during most of the Republican period. It covers the existing and operating lines, not the historical railways lines that were abandoned or dismantled (such as the 1876 inital railway line to Jiangwan).

Railway_1949: This layer includes the more developed network of railways in the urban area of Shanghai around 1949.

Railway_2008: This layer includes the whole railway network in the Shanghai municipality in 2008.
