This table provides a breakdown of the number of houses and their occupants  in the International Settlement by type of houses — Chinese (Native) and foreign houses — in the International Settlement of Shanghai between 1870 and 1895. The "Chinese (or "native) house" and "foreign house" labels designate a type of construction, not necessarily its occupants. The houses listed in these survey were houses subject to taxation by the Shanghai Municipal Council. The table also provides the address of 112 individual houses.
