This table provides a breakdown of the number of houses in the International Settlement by type of houses — Chinese (Native) and foreign houses — in the thirteen police districts of the International Settlement of Shanghai between 1889 and 1902. The "Chinese (or "native) house" and "foreign house" labels designate a type of construction, not necessarily its occupants. The table includes two different tabs:
