摘要Until 1941, when immigration to Shanghai was curbed, more than 25,000 Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany and Central Europe made their way there. An aid committee was established by the Jews already in Shanghai, and this committee aided the new immigrants with food, shelter, and jobs. When the Japanese occupied Shanghai they organized a Jewish Affairs Bureau to deal with the Jewish community. With the arrival of a Gestapo officer in 1942, conditions worsened for the Jews. In spite of the Nazi official's efforts, virtually the entire Jewish community survived the war.
