This table and its accompanying graphs provide an overview of the evolution of business, especially industrial activity, in Shanghai from 1937 to 1940. The US consulate's commercial attaché used to produce a report — named 'barometer' — on the econmic situation in the city on a regular basis. The reports stopped after the Japanese army took over the International Settlement in December 1941.
