摘要Shanghai was a metropolis full of appetency with blooming economy,and brothel were “flower of crime” which developed from it.Flowers in Shanghai accounts a story of prostitute and brothel visitors in brothels of Shanghai,and reflects metropolitan culture of Shanghai.The culture has three essential characters: commercial tendency in every day life;immoral tendency in human relation;utility tendency in emotion between man and woman.

19世纪的上海是经济繁华的欲望都市,妓院是滋生其中的“恶之花”。《海上花列传》通过上海青楼中一群妓女和狎客的故事,折射出上海的都市文明。这种文明有着日常生活商业化、人际关系非道德化、两性情感功利化的基本特征。
