CommentsThis document maps out the exposed corpses found out by the police during their rounds over the first nine months of 1938, the worst year in wartime Shanghai in terms of economic and social difficulty. It is based on the daily reports of the Garde Municipale. Yet this map represents only a tiny share of the total number of exmposed corpses and abandoned coffins collected by two main benevolent associations in 1938 (more than 60,000 for the main association).
