This table is the exact reproduction of the survey that the Bureau of Public Health (Shanghai People's Government) conducted to acquire a full knowledge of the rates of funeral parlors. The survey itself was entrusted to the Funeral Business Trade Association. The survey targeted six funeral parlors that provided an itemized list of all the available funeral services and artifacts and related rates. It provides a full review of the extremely large range of funeral services. The objective of the survey was to introduce a greater degree of rationality and coherence, even if the funeral parlors usually offered pre-defined "packages" for various grades of service.

The main currency unit is the yuan, with a few instances of rates given in "danwei" 單位, a unit of account used to tame inflation.
