Note(s) | This is a view of a checkpoint at the entrance of the French Concession. The original caption says: "Permanent blockhaus on Place Paul Siu in Zikawei". No "Place Paul Siu" ever existed in the French Concession. It may have been part of a name used within the Jesuit compound in Zikawei. The location of the checkpoint, however, is quite clear. It is located at the corner of Avenue Haig (road sign on the left) and probably Avenue Pétain. The building in the background is one of the permanent "Poste de police" of the French police. This building can be seen in Map. ID 100 (Map of the police stations in the French Concession). People can be seen circulating on Avenue Haig freely, but need to go through the check point to be admitted into the French Concession. |
